Re: HElp. Emotional dog

Sometimes Rudy does get extra clingy to me for a variety of reasons, i'm not always sure why! My husband works from home so he is with Rudy all the time! But he will still whine for me and when i get home he's doing this sort of excited crying noise. This doesn't happen all the time but he goes thro...

Re: Addison's disease

So sorry to hear about Wookiee - I can't imagine how heart breaking it must be for you. Unfortunately with Addison's they do usually have what's called an Addisonian crises before they are diagnosed and that crises can sadly be fatal. The problem is the symptoms can be things like diarrhoea, letharg...

Re: Attention span and distractability

Rudy had a very short attention span, especially during his teenage months, so I would do really short but regular training sessions with him. In his puppy class he would pay attention until a better distraction came his way and then he was off! Or like Daisy he would look at me as if he'd never hea...

Re: She is so emotional

Rudy doesn't make noise when he meets people in the park - unless it's one of his favourite humans but when he meets a family member or friend he sounds like he's crying/screaming! It's the same for when we get home after leaving him. Even in the car as we approach a park or someones house and he kn...

Re: Remembering the Huggy Monster

Everything's gone blurry  What a lovely post - and very true how quickly these gorgeous animals take over your heart. As someone never having had a dog before (although i've had other animals) i now realise i can't be without one. I've had people say it's too heartbreaking to have to a dog beca...

Re: Muscle spasms

Thank you for your messages - I'm so sorry i posted an update on another thread. Rudy has been diagnosed as having Addison's disease. He is on a monthly injection of Zycortal and a daily dose of prednisone which we adjust depending on stressful or overly exciting situations for him. The first few da...

Re: Do you work full time?

It sounds as though you've got a well thought out plan but I agree that it's important to be around more than usual for the puppy. I took almost a month off work and concentrated on training Rudy and leaving him alone for a few minutes at first then building up to hours and he hasn't had issues with...

Re: 14 week old - reassurance needed!

She's gorgeous!! Glad she did so well at her puppy class :D Concerning the grooming we began by taking Rudy to visit the groomer first and just get a feel for the place before getting his hair cut. Also the first few times I stayed with Rudy while he was getting groomed and it really seemed to settl...

Re: 14 week old - reassurance needed!

You've described Rudy as a puppy! The nipping and walking were the most difficult to deal with. With nipping nothing would work and it went from biting to full on hanging off my clothes and ripping little holes in them (I've kept them as a memento to his mad puppy days!) But be assured it will stop....

Re: Addison's disease

Thank you so much for all your comments - after dropping a kilo and half in weight Rudy is now eating on his own and has got his appetite back. He also went for a little walk yesterday and was incredible excited to be out and about :D

Re: Addison's disease

He's home!!! :D Still very tired but he's been at the vets for 2 days so he's been through a lot. The vet said he was a perfect little patient, never grumbled while they poked and prodded and never tried to chew on or take his drip out. He's on a mix of tablets at the moment but we will probably swi...

Re: Addison's disease

It's been confirmed Rudy has Addison's disease but we are feeling much more positive as at least it can be treated with medication. We'll just have to be extra vigilant with him. He's still at the vets but responding well to treatment and he's not in a critical condition anymore. We are so grateful!...

Addison's disease

We've just had Rudy's blood test results back and the vet says it all points very strongly towards Addison's disease. His potassium levels are so low they wanted him in immediately to start treating him because he's at a critical stage, but the diagnosis will be confirmed by another test. We know it...

Re: Muscle spasms

Thanks for your replies Anny and Bid, I really appreciate you taking the time to give us Dude's experience. Unfortunately Rudy is still very unwell and has now been for blood tests as they try to get to the bottom of what is wrong. This evening he fainted and we took him to the emergency vet who did...

Muscle spasms

Hi everyone, Over the last couple of days Rudy has not been himself and yesterday he began having what i can only describe as a cross between shivering and muscle spasms. He spent all night on the bed with us and just wanted to be cuddled but he was whining a little and every now and then would star...
