Re: nasty incident in park

This was a horrible thing to happen but as previously said it might never happen again. It is understandable that you are nervous. My son and I took our three dogs out a couple of weeks ago together, Poppy doodle, Jess the German shepherd and shako, a very beautiful but slightly thick malamute. As w...

Questions to ask a breeder?

Hi, I am going with a friend to look at a 3 month old doodle today, last of the litter. It's a long time since we brought Poppy home and a refresher of the questions we should ask is needed.
Any thoughts welcome,
J

Re: Recall

Hi, When Poppy was younger I first let her off with a dog I knew would return to it's owner on command, she would follow it I would then be able to put her lead on. The best advice I was ever given and that works for us was on here. I was advised to raise my hand in the air with a treat in it and ca...

Re: I wonder who ??????

A friend of mine has two cockers and over Christmas her youngest managed to get onto the dining room table by jumping off a chair that was at least five feet away. She only realised when her husband asked if she had eaten them all! They were chocolate so the pooch spent the rest of the day being sic...

Re: To Puppy or not to Puppy, that is the question!

Thanks Pollydoodle, Poppy is not one for huge exercise, never has been. I sometimes wonder if it's because I have had serious hip and knee problems and not long after she came to us I couldn't take her out. I played games with her indoors and in the garden tiring her mind rather than running her for...

Re: To Puppy or not to Puppy, that is the question!

Thanks, some good points made. When we introduced Jess the German shepherd to our golden retriever Tess it gave her a new lease of life and I am convinced we got to have her with us for at least an extra year, she seemed to return to puppyhood. I thick I might try some of the doodle meets again but ...

Re: To Puppy or not to Puppy, that is the question!

Thanks for your input it is good to hear different angles. I think what worried me more is that Poppy is human focused. She will interact with other dogs but doesn't actively seek them out for play or company. When we walk her she is off into the bushes to investigate every smell, will say a basic h...

Re: Has everyone abandoned ship?

Poppydoodle and I are still here. Life is improved which leaves me more time and people in this forum have helped me not only with Poppy but through some really difficult family time. I will not abandon you! :D

Re: To Puppy or not to Puppy, that is the question!

Thank you, the idea about the blankets is a good one. We are going to try and contact the breeder we got Poppy from to see if she is still breeding doodles. The other breed the boys love is the cocker spaniel cross with a poodle but I don't have any experience of them. We got Poppy at Christmas and ...

To Puppy or not to Puppy, that is the question!

Just wondering if I could pick others minds regarding bringing another doodle into the household. Poppy is four and would be five before we added to our family and we were really considering an addition until this Christmas. We had friends visiting with a new baby and Poppy would not leave me alone ...

Poppys best and only steal has been the hubbies black pudding sandwich he left to near to the edge in the kitchen, he was stupid enough to do this twice so Poppy did it twice as well!

Re: Emily still nipping

We were lucky Poppy was never that mouthy but if she did start we squealed loudly, it shocked her and she stopped. Luckily my boys were older so would all do the same thing, it was a case of training them more than Poppy. I also hate being licked by dogs and as soon as Poppy licked anyone she was du...

Re: What's in a name?

Poppy joined us after the loss of my father in law who I called Pops and she was a beautiful reddy colour so hence Poppy. The boys also liked it because they thought of Grandpops in heaven sitting there says cheeky mare nameing a dog after me!

Re: New puppy blues

It's so easy to stress over our beautiful doodles when they join us. We chose to crate Poppy at first and still do in the car, she likes mud and my car doesn't! We never had a problem leaving her as with the previous advice we treated her when we left her and we also built up the time we left her, e...
