Re: I want to go but..........

Oh - I thought it was just me! I too hate leaving Podge when we go on holiday even though he's with my mum and dad. I seem to think of him as my third child and constantly worry about him (and miss him loads). Your babies will be well cared for and at least they have each other. Enjoy your holiday.

Re: Puppy classes in Exeter Area????

Hello Claire Although I can't recommend them personally, I know three people (one of whom is a vet) who sing the praises of Devon Dogs. (devondogs.co.uk). One friend has a Collie X and she goes there for agility and extra training (her dog is 4). They also board dogs in their home for anyone who use...

Re: Update on Podge

Sorry Cecelia, we can't make it as we are going to Cornwall to see my mum and dad but I hope you all have a wonderful time at the Double Locks (the food is great there isn't it?).

Update on Podge

A few weeks ago I posted that Podge was having trouble with his anal glands (and the vet). The vet suggested flushing them out under GA but as this was the first time he had experienced a problem in this area, I wanted to avoid that and decided to tinker with his diet (after advice from Carole G - t...

Re: Dog friendly beaches around Beer/Seaton/Sidmouth

I have just checked my local guide and dogs are allowed on Branscombe beach with no restrictions. It is located between Sidmouth and Beer and is the site where the container ship was beached a few years ago. There are many clifftop walks along the coast here but if you want to avoid cliffs, then a l...

Re: Anal gland problems/smelly dood

Thanks for all your replies; it's really good to have as much info as possible for when I next visit the vet. Kate I think you are right - Podge didn't have a very thorough examination; the first vet simply emptied his glands, the second vet checked to see if they needed emptying again and then gave...

Re: Anal gland problems/smelly dood

No, I'm not keen on her but as I haven't been to the vets for a while, it didn't occur to me who I would be seeing, but I now know for next time.

Re: Anal gland problems/smelly dood

Hi Amber - the first vet I saw was really amiable and made a fuss of Podge, the second one is not my favourite I have to say. I have seen her once before when Podge had an ear infection and she was quite rough and said that he was over-reacting when she poked her "ear thing" into his ear and he yelp...

Re: Anal gland problems/smelly dood

No, it's not his ears Jo - I clean them regularly since he had an ear infection and I know that smell (not as bad as this one!). I have been tempted to give him raw chicken wings but am a bit worried about it in case he chokes or something. I did get him a bone from the butchers last week but he jus...

Re: Anal gland problems/smelly dood

Hi - the vet hasn't offered any other explanations - it was me who suggested it was his anal glands. I'm just a bit confused as to why, if his glands have been emptied and there is no infection, there is still a horrible smell surrounding him ( ). I do actually give him some of those wet tray...

Anal gland problems/smelly dood

Hello After being away for a week, we came home and found Podge to be very smelly (normally he's as fresh as a daisy :) ) . I thought it was coming from his rear end and so took him to the vets. She said that his anal glands were indeed full and duly emptied them. After a week, he was still really s...

Re: Sunday 27 June 11am - Devon meet at Exeter

Hello Diehards Firstly thank you to Jayne and Cecilia for the PMs and invitatation to the meeting on Sunday. Sorry I haven't replied earlier but haven't checked my e-mails for days! I'm afraid Podge and I will have to give it a miss this time :( as with such fantastic weather we are taking ou...

Pedigree Adoption Drive

Hi - I have just received an e-mail directing me to YouTube. It's by Pedigree and is entitled "Abondoned" and concerns their Adoption Drive. For every hit, Pedigree will donate £1 towards helping abandoned dogs. I thought maybe we could all do our bit and then pass it on to our fellow like-minded fr...
