Re: How do I handle my little girl's grief?

Well - I can honestly say that was the saddest evening I have ever had with my children. I sat my daughter down and told her that we had found Harry and that sadly he had died. She wailed and screamed and cried while my son (7) asked me all sorts of questions. In the end I had to tell him that I wou...

Re: How do I handle my little girl's grief?

Oh thank you so much everyone! We are all animal lovers in our house - even my hubby is upset! The hamster is called Harry-bo (like the sweets, Haribo!). My Mum emailed me some info from the net on coping with death of a pet and her advice, together with yours has helped me and DH decide. We will te...

Re: How do I handle my little girl's grief?

Thank you so much all of you. I appreciate your advice. I think Bella, Sami (and Bid - I keep having to amend this as people are so kindly posting at the same time!) are right - I couldn't bear it if she kept looking for him and it is important that kids understand death. It is just hard knowing how...

Re: do u believe in....ghosts?

Oh that video was MEAN!!!!!! Here's another tale for you. Years and years ago I (stupidly I know) did a weegie (Spelling?) board for a laugh with some friends. Now my mother had just had a major stroke at the age of 49 so I was emotionally susceptible at the time. First of all my paternal grandmothe...

How do I handle my little girl's grief?

Last night my 9 year-old daughters hamster escaped from his cage (she had cleaned it out yesterday and, I think, must have failed to put part of it back properly). I found him, dead, under our bed - the cat must have got him. Now I know a lot of you are thinking "it's only a hamster' but he was a re...

Your worst walk ever?

Ok - here's mine. at 6.30 yesterday morning I was walking Holly around a lake with the mist swirling on top of the water and the odd lone duck swimming silently across the still water. It was bliss and I remember thinking how wonderful it is to have a dog and be forced to come and experience the won...

I want a t-shirt....

...that says "she may be the size of a large lab but she is only 5 months old so stop looking at us like that!" I am sick to death of comments like "it's very boisterous, isn't it?" and "you need to get it trained" etc etc. She's only doing what normal pups of that age do - she's just a bit ...errrr...

Re: Doods and car-phobia

Aww - Bonzo sounds like he had exactly the same problem as Holly has so it is really encouraging to hear that he got over it. All the advice here is fantastic so I am sure that together, Holly and I can make her car experience a good one! Keep your fingers crossed for us - we want to go camping in t...

Re: hello all

Hi Monkvegas, We live in Leeds and there are a few breeders in the area. None of them had litters when we were looking (we got Holly from Stonecellars Breeders in Durham - about and hour and a half drive - very good, reputable breeders - http://www.stonecellarslabradoodles.com). I called a few of th...

Re: Doods and car-phobia

Thanks everyone! I put her in the car for just a minute this morning with the door open. I offered treats but she wouldn't take them as she was so nervous :( . I reassured her then took her out for a nice walk. I'll just build it up slowly... keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks again!

Brilliant Idea! I will try it immediately. How often do you suggest doing this? Daily?

Thanks loads!

Doods and car-phobia

Yet more advice required please. We have just come back from a lovely time at Roundhay Park in Leeds but Holly was sick in the car (again). She is absolutely terrified of being in the car and we don't know what to do. I think it is because just after we got her at 8 weeks old my car gave up the ghos...

Re: Heartbroken but hsave to rehome my Barney Preston Lancashire

Felt I had to post 'cos that numpty has really got my goat! Firstly - I really hope you find the home you are looking for for Barney. I really feel for you and the heartbreaking and very brave decision you have had to make. Can't believe that stupid woman - I can't bear people who judge others witho...

Re: Cookie

oooooh, I wish I lived closer! I mentioned getting another pup to DH and he looked at me as if I was off my rocker  . He quite rightly pointed out that we live in a fairly small 3 bed house with 3 kids, 2 cats and a dog... My feeling is what is another small addition to the chaos???? Gla...
