Re: Running After Other Dogs... Help needed!

Mine assumes everyone has food, he's not running for the dog, he's running for the owner and then stalks them nudging their pockets waiting for the treats...the dog he can take or leave!

Re: Whistle advice please...

I didn't know about the 3 pips when I started and used whistle to mimic the whistle from my hubby and it was successful as well...too successful. when we were walking round the edge of a footie match and ref blew whistle for half time.....I caught him just in the nick of time before he went bounding...

Re: A good strong squeaky ball needed

I am a dog walker and finding a ball that my staffie cross and retriever didn't destroy instantly was a challenge, however, I found JW Good Cuz, they are rubber balls with feet, they squeak and the dogs love them. I got them from ebay from a very nice lady in Cornwall. They last for ages and come in...

Re: First dog - first Labradoodle

Mine started off a wee quiet thing, who slept the whole time.....we recently changed his food to the raw diet, and he has grown huge....constant comments like.."my he's big"..etc etc...and mad.....in at everything, inc...

Re: Jumping up and over-enthusiasm in general!

Sports bottle of water is the answer to all my issues!!! One flick of water on his nose, along with a firm leave seems to do the trick. Stops the jumping on people & stops the jumping on other dogs. I have got to the stage that I only have to have it in my hand and he backs off when he is told. The ...

Re: Barking

we did the distraction thing and got Sparky to sit and wait till people/dogs went past giving him a treat at the time, seemed to work, he'd have been about 10 months at the time and we did it with every dog/person we passed.... I now carry a squeaky toy in my pocket just in case. Hoodies still do it...

Re: Does your dog have hip or elbow dysplasia

Gunner, it was interesting reading your five points, because looking back I thinkI can say yes to 4 of them. Sparky always had an awkward gait which we didn't realise indicated a problem at the time, and seemed to have to "haul" his back end off the floor to get up. The puppies were in a shed in a b...

Re: Robust dog toys?

The other favourite toy of my lot is a piece of rope!!! I make a giant knot at one end, a loop for my hand at the other and it becomes a tug toy or a fetch toy as the bigger the knot the further it goes, the dogs seem to love it, maybe cause it's light in their mouths. Costs me pennies, it's one of ...

Re: Robust dog toys?

I am a dog walker as well as doodle owner, and struggled to find toys that were "dog proof" for outdoors. I got fed up buying the standard stuff that lasted a day. However, on ebay I discovered "ruff dawg" toys. I got "The Stick" and "The Twig and Rock". Brilliant!!!! My doodle loves the rock in par...

Re: Hip Problems

Poor Sparky is feeling really really sorry for himself today after his operation yesterday! And stuck to me like glue!!! Anyway, the vet said that he has mild hd on his left leg only which is a big relief. I could see on the Xray that his joint is offcentre. The vet has recommended hydrotherapy once...

Re: Hip Problems

Thanks for your messages of encouragement. Sparky has never been a "bouncy jumpy" dog, much more a sniffer and runner when he put his mind to it. Although since he's been on restricted walks, he's bounced more than ever and jumped from things he's never jumped from! I don't think he's in pain at the...

Hip Problems

Hi, feeling totally depressed tonight, had Sparky my 9 month old at the vet today and looking like hip problems. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that he was holding his left back leg up a lot and not putting full weight on it..maybe he's been doing this for a long time and i haven't noticed, but muc...

Re: How do you cope with 2 strong doodles on leads??

I've started walking my 6 month old Doodle, Sparky, recently along with my sister's Cockapoo and found that 2 seperate leads were a nightmare. I have been using the Halti training lead which has 2 clips on it and put dogs on together, they are attached but at a distance, then I can walk holding the ...
