Re: Excited new puppy owner (soon!)

Hi,youve chosen a great breed, you will get a lot of good advice regarding food for your puppy. There are so many dry foods to choose from.My choice has always been James Wellbeloved who I guess would be classed a mid table food. There are cheaper and more expensive,my dogs have always thrived on JWB w...

Re: Doodle Straining To Get At Traffic

Just a second thought about your problem.Because you will not have an experienced trainer/behaviourist with you,for safety use a good quality normal collar not a slip collar.Remember positive thoughts at all times.

Re: Doodle Straining To Get At Traffic

Totally agree with Bid,you do need the help of a good behaviourist, but when I deal with this type of problem I do use this technique.Extending leads are of no us,get a good quality training line (at least 20ft long). As you live in a side road set off towards the main road with the training lead on.I...

Go and see your Vet

I am new to this forum and have a six month old puppy who has had a life threatening problem six hours after bringing her home at eight weeks old and now is receiving treatment for a corneal ulcer.I really am concerned about forum members who seem to seek members advice on health problems when the p...

Re: Puppy Socialization Classes - A Disaster!

Morning,i agree with all you comments. The word socialization is the key. When I ran this type of class the whole format was based on puppies getting to know each other.Formal training can begin at a later date. However each trainer running these classes will have different opinions.I just feel that pu...

Re: Help please, anyone got experience of gps collars?

You have completely missed my point.Of course forum members are able to give you excellent well meaning advice, but armed with those thoughts and full of confidence what do you do when you let your dog off lead and it still fails to respond? My point was simply to suggest that if an experienced train...

Re: 6 month old off the lead?

Using a long training line (at least 50ft)is ideal. Two things to try.Its important to call your dog before it gets to the end of the line,so that its still running freely. At that point if your dog turns towards you run as fast as you can away from it encouraging it all the time.If you trip over the ...

Re: Puppy Grooming

Hi,thanks for that.I have spoken to a lot of Doodle owners and am in the process of visiting many, many local groomers. What a minefield, some want to shear her like a sheep, when all I want to do at this stage is give her a trim all over, like the fun of taking your child to have his or her first haircu...

Re: Help please, anyone got experience of gps collars?

Hi,i hope things are sorting themselves out,i am a trainer with 35 years experience and have come across this problem on many occasions. The problem with advise from third parties is that although 100% well meaning the only way to solve the problem is to find a good one to one trainer who will spend ...

Please dont put your dogs name on ID tags

Ive noticed that some owners put their dogs name on ID tags. All that's needed is address and phone number,if your dog is found after running off that's all that is necessary.Hopefully they will be chipped but we all are aware of unscrupulous people who if they have the dogs name will encourage the a...

Re: Probiotics

My puppy had similar problems,4 days at the vets 6 hours after bringing her home. Lab report showed two bugs Giardia and Campylobacter.Long story short, after two different antibiotics I now use Yumpro bioactive tablets. These were first prescribed by my vet but are available on line.If your friend ha...
