Re: when to intervene

It sounds to me like Muzzy does know dog language since she has used submissive gestures, maybe the Boxer is having language difficulties?. I think understanding the situation is unstable and doing something about it (calmly) has to be good. Perhaps you could try again some time in a less charged en...

Sue, Thanks for the link that was interesting. :D
I'm a pick and mix guy myself but I do like the simplicity of The Dog Whisperer.

Re: The Dog Whisperer

Yowzers! :x They don't look nice at all. But the research says they cause less damage to the dogs neck than a choke chain. It also says they don't work as well on long-haired dogs. Well I'm sure they know what they are doing with them. Sure I won't be getting one though! I haven't seen one o...

Re: The Dog Whisperer

Sorry to ressurect this old post but what are these prong collars (I'm not thinking of getting one by the way!); just interested, I asked before but got no response, how are they supposed to work. Dog whisperer is back on Sky, I like a lot of what he is teaching and I think to be fair he adapts his ...

Re: Half Check collars?

I went to a training class where they insisted on half check or full check collars. I saw dogs there being lifted of their feet when being 'corrected'. Needless to say we walked  But later, my dog developed hot spots under his collar and we found a half check stopped them because it hang nice...

Re: Chasing the rabbits and trouble in the garden!

saz1970, It sounds to me like Chelsea has decided she is the Queen of the Garden. Her behaviour sounds likes its playful but also protective of her patch? I am certainly no expert but perhaps you need to restrict her freedom in the garden, perhaps reduce the available space or start from scratch, ta...

Re: Why are so many dog owners anti doodle?

Each to their own :D I soon learned to select which dog owners I would smile sweetly at and which ones I might actually listen to :D If anyone is interested there is a great book called 'The Truth about Dogs' by Stephen Budiansky. He pretty much explodes the myths of pedigree dogs! I grew up with bo...

Re: On or off the sofa?

Has to be a personal choice... If you want cuddles on the sofa, then why not? We don't let Darcy up but we have a bean bag and she gets cuddles in that at her level but the sofa is off limits. That way we get a cuddle when we want one but we can also read or watch telly unlolested too. She seems hap...

Re: that dreaded "D" word :-(

Sorry everyone, I think I gave the wrong impression. What I am saying is walking is really good exercise not that you need to go out and run for 2 hours (unless you really enjoy running). Helen, you loose weight very quickly at first because you are drastically increasing your calories out and keepi...

Re: what do you do????

I am in the Navy, used to be in Submarines but then trained to be a Mine Clearance Diver, had to give that up recently because I developed a progressive eye disease called Keratoconous and I cannot see my guages anymore :( Now I help run the harbour. I used my shore-time to get an MBA but I love the...

Re: that dreaded "D" word :-(

Good luck to all of you on diets. I just thought I would mention that running is a really good method of getting fit as has been mentioned but it won't necessarily shift fat per se. It will improve your fitness: heart & lungs and develop muscles, especially your stomach muscles which are very import...
