Re: Head collars... really confused

Hi, I used a gentle leader for my Newfoundland, even my wife at 7 and a half stone could walk him (at 10 and a half stone). They work really well because they turn the dogs head which stops him walking ahead rather than contest with his strength. We also had a harness at one point and we really stru...

Re: Things to do with clicker training - ideas please

Hi, I'm using the clicker for just about everything, house training, heel training, recall, sit, down, fetch, the whole thing basically. Once the clicker was installed as reinforcement, I use it every time she does the right thing, because its a lot quicker and clearer then 'good girl' and fumbling ...

Re: Windy doodle

My wife phoned me to say that Darcy had been going ballistic in the back yard with lots of VTOL jumps, especially when gusts of hail came through.

Re: What Makes A Good Cross?

Must be a man thing, I would go for the crushing option too and I am supposed to be more intelligent than a dog :? Or maybe I'm deluded

Re: What Makes A Good Cross?

I agree with you Bid. The positive from the increased profile of cross-breeds just now might be better regulation, perhaps? There again I suppose there are just many dodgy breeders in the pedigree world. I know that labradors have had a lot of farming plus also we had to be wary of puppy farmers whe...

Re: What Makes A Good Cross?

I thought Lab/Collie crosses were very popular and pretty much ubiquitous. Its only recently we have started calling cross-breeds designer dogs. Its a harsh lable for a very old pratice.

Re: Where to stay in Scotland - any ideas?

That'll be midge-tastic for sure. Avon Skin-So-Soft is the answer!

The west coast of the highlands is stunning, Glen Coe upwards, Mallaig up to Ullapool fantastic!
And dogs are not just welcome most places, they are compulsory! :)

Re: Help - Just bitten the children

Puppies are very mouthy at this stage and they do grow out of it if you don't encourage them to do otherwise :? I think (in my limited experience) that it would be a mistake to lable this as dominant behaviour, your puppy is only just starting to work out where he is in the pack. I think its more a ...
