Re: Who Has Mastered Jumping Up?

Patricia, I'm with you on the training classes thing. I cannot find a decent training class where I live and I have searched all over. They all seem to be in the dark ages: dragging dogs around on choke collars and so on. I'm not against choke collars necessarily (although I don't use them), but the...

Re: At Our Wit's End

Good Luck!
We had a head-strong dog (also called Hudson - perhaps its in the name? ) We got there in the end and the teen-age bit was the worst. But in the end you wouldn't have known he ever had a rebellious bone in his body. Good luck with it all.

Re: Indestructable dog beds

We had a Newfie once and he had an indestructible bed from Kuranda. This is the web-site: http://www.kurandadogbeds.co.uk They don't look as comfy as a fabric bed and they are expensive. But our dog loved it.

Re: Who Has Mastered Jumping Up?

I think this is one of 'easier said than done' things. :? We have been using a house lead with Darcy (5 months). When she gets up on her back legs we use the lead to pull her gently from the furniture / person. Once she has 4 paws down we say "off!" firmly but not shouting. It seems to be working bu...

Re: We have spendid animals people!

I like the "its ****ing dog" remark; very funny. Wish I had said something back at the time. But I just took him out of the class and trained him on my own. I knew he was a good dog and we proved it! Actually, I can see the wolf-hound connection, some of the coats are similar and body shape is...

Re: We have spendid animals people!

Sorry, I should say it was the trainer that said this! But then first impressions were not great as she was dragged into the hall by her 3 very unruly dogs!

Re: We have spendid animals people!

I was told once that my Newfoundland was an 'abomination'; which might not have been so bad had it not been at the puppy training class we had decided to take him to! :x

Re: Darcy

Hi, Yeah Dallas is the Dad, Penny the Labarador mum. Still haven't managed to keep her still long enough to take a decent picture of her at home and I ruined Jackie's pictures by making them so small. Gonna try again. Took for a very wee walk and she walked well on the lead. Surely this cannot last ...

Sorry that picture is teeny! I'll try to improve on that or post a better one tomorrow. I over-re-sized it

Darcy

Hi, We are also proud owners of one of Jackie's beautiful Labradoodles. This is a black flat coated bitch called Darcy. The pictures are ones Jackie took, our were rubbish! She is a very bright girl and we love her dearly already. This has been the culmination of a lot of research and decision makin...

Re: Camping and Doods: Is it a yes or a no no?

Went camping with my old Newfie a few years back. No problems; all dogs were kept on leads. This was in Glen Coe. We walked the legs off the dog, took him to the pub (no drinks of course}, watched a band then retired. The only problem was the snoring: the Newf, not me

Re: Passage to India

Phew! What a relief! A friend of mine was in the same situation when he went out to Oman. He didn't want to take his dog as they are not greatly liked in the Middle East.
Glad it will work out.

Re: When good dogs go bad

Stupid question time! What are prong collars? There are so many dog books out there? It is truly bewildering! Before my first dog I read lots of books all containing conflicting advice. When I got the dog, I discovered that the dog owners that I met had wildly differing advice too  In the end...
