Re: Gentle leader - Love it / hate it - I still can't decide!

Sorry to hear you're having a nightmare! We tried the Gentle Leader with our old Newfoundland and were amazed that it kept a 10 and half stone dog in check. But he still managed to jack-knife all over the place whilst he was wearing it and rub his nose against me. I wasn't sure if having control in ...

We just have the one. Forget diets and going down the gym, we just need to get a life and get a Dood!

Re: HELP pup wont eat!!!

Good luck, I hope she starts to eat soon. I was told by a vet that dogs are well equipped for long fasts and not to worry if they do not eat as they will settle to it eventually. I hope that provides some kind of reassurance but I am sure you will be happier once she eats.

Re: When will walking a doodle become fun?

You are entitled to be frustrated. At least you are not taking it out on the dog! :) I posted a reply about the recall thing on the 'training' forum. Hope that helps in some way. I am not trying to be an expert but my experiences might help (maybe?)
Good Luck.

Re: Split personality?

The running away game is sooooo frustrating, I feel for you and a terrifying experience on the road. My dog used to do it but I got on top of it in the end :) I don't know much about dog behaviour but I did sort this one out in the end. The first mistake I made was to let him off the lead before he ...

Re: When will walking a doodle become fun?

I think a lot us have been there, so don't worry, rant away! :D I'm not a dog trainer or anything but getting dogs to walk nicely can be a real pain in the backside. Particularly when they are young and are trying to get out and explore the world at a different pace to the one you have in mind. A lo...

Re: More prejudice against black dogs!

I used to have a black Newfie. The number of times I was told that an owner's dog was 'having a go' was because 'they don't like black dogs'. Its very disappointing that there is so little knowledge about dogs from people who choose to own dogs! :x I think the actual issue was that my dog was a huge...

Re: Strange dogs snapping at Bailey

I would tend to agree with Barneyboy. Some dogs are intolerant of bouncy puppies and the puppies themselves learn social etiquette at different rates. It sounds like Bailey is just learning and this how dogs learn, through experience. The more you can socialise Bailey the quicker he can learn but tr...

Re: Duff has gone in for his BIG BOY op but...

Anne, I've been off the site for a few months so I didn't get your PM. I've PM'd you back now with my telephone number. I live in Helensburgh. It doesn't sound to me like you really want to re-home Duff but you are obviously finding things tough! We had a hyper-active Newfoundland until 2006 when we...

Types of Labradoodle Coat / Colour etc

Hi, I am beginning my search for a Labradoodle pup in the New Year. I am just wondering: if I am looking for a certain colour and/or coat is it possible to ask the breeder? Or is the case that the pups can be any colour or coat type? The reason I ask is because we have a fleece coat in mind and pref...

Not entirely sure actually. :? But I have eye operation next month so I think I will have to wait until I am fit again, although they can be used as guide dogs can't they? I'm also not planning on toilet training in the winter, I did that once... :(

Re: pulling on the lead.

We're looking at getting a labradoodle next year but we used to have a Newf that pulled, that's no fun  We tried the gentle leader and it was excellent in that my wife at 49 Kilos could suddenly walk our 65 kilo dog but he still pulled in some circumstances. We found that just stopping every ...
