Re: February Photo Competition; "A doodle's best friend"

A doodle's best friend - well it has to be his "big sister". The look of love :D .

Re: How to teach retrieval

Thank you Katherine - that's good to hear. I forgot to put an extra ball in the car today so just had to stick with the one ball but my daughter and I had quite a bit of progress today. We have discovered that Podge likes to "hold on" to the ball for a while after he has retrieved it and then he is ...

Re: How to teach retrieval

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this challenge :D . Thanks for your replies, I think I'll try the two ball method - that sounds like a good idea. I have tried offering treats to drop the ball but as sorely as Podge is tempted, as soon as he realises I might pinch his ball, he won't take the treat.

How to teach retrieval

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on teaching a dog to retrieve a ball? Podge absolutely loves chasing the ball, finding it and then he comes right back to me but he just wont let go of the ball! He knows the "drop" and "leave" commands but just refuses to give the ball back to me but ke...

Re: On today's menu is ...

This is a great thread - fascinating! Today's menu for Podge is:- Breakfast:- Half portion Orijen mixed with cooked "pet stick", carrots and peas. The pet stick is sold by a local organic butcher and consists of whatever he has left over that day, but typically liver, kindney, heart, lights etc. He ...

Re: Daiseeeeee!

Oh poor Poppy! Still, it's not as bad as what I saw at the beach on Sunday. There was a very cute girl about 2 years old standing on the sand, when along came a large brown dog and cocked his leg on her :( .

Re: America's Hardest Prisons

That's really interesting. My 11 year old daughter has just started a school project entitled "Working Dogs" and has to research as many types of environment in which dogs are involved as possible. Obviously we all know the main ones but that's totally different. We don't have Sky, we have Virgin bu...

Re: man's best friend!

What is it with men? My hubby was exactly the same. Absolutely did not want a dog but after 5 years of begging from our daughter, he finally caved in and said "as long as you two look after it - I don't want to be involved". It did take him quite some time getting used to having a dog around but he ...

Re: More Dawlish Pics

Thanks guys. I took Podge to the vet again on Saturday to check his ears and after examining them she said that they were still a bit red but not infected. As she inserted the otoscope (?? ear inspection thing) he yelped loudly and she said "it's not that bad, he's just paranoid" . Anyway, h...

Re: My stress busting DOOD

Hi - sorry to hear you are unwell at the moment, hope you get better soon. What better medicine than that picture of Zak standing at the kitchen door? He's absolutely beautiful, what a fab coat! We also say that our dood makes us laugh and smile every day - they just can't help it :D .
