help with labradoodles coats types

Post by debs43 » 22 Jan 2007, 15:24

can anyone please help, we are in the process of finding a new member of our family after the recent sad loss of our beloved springer spaniel, we have decided that a labradoodle is the pet for our family, but we are getting ever more confused as to coat types some breeders say curly/fleece/shaggy/flat but have no idea what to look for in a pup as to what coat they will eventually have thanks for any help you may have for us what we would like is a guide in pictures of pups and what they look like as adult dogs

thanks

deb

Hi, Bean (see link below) is a 4 month old doodle, mum was a choccy lab and dad was a choccy standard poodle which makes her an F1. Her coat is the scruffy type. She hasnt started shedding hair yet but Im expecting she will once she gets bigger. Someone thought she was a red setter pup yesterday, her hair is growing longer and she has a beard to be proud of already!!!

We lost our old dog last year and really needed another pup to help fill the hole so I know how you must be feeling. Hope this helps. Good luck with your search:) :)

thats right Debs, his Mum was 1st Gen doodle (lab + poodle mum & dad) and his Dad is about 3rd or 4th Gen doodle - as far as I know the generation is worked out by adding one onto the lowest generation of the parents - ie mum was 1st gen (F1) therefore Bailey is 2nd gen (F2) - confusing!!!!!

HI
Ripley's a multi-gen... F3 I think..

her mum was quite a smooth choccy/caramel, and her dad a blonde scruff....

she's a black, curly-coated gal and does not shed
