Foxisle gundogs

I posted a little while ago on here saying I was looking for a miniature labradoodle to join our family and was looking for a breeder in the Yorkshire area. I've come across the Foxisle Gundogs website while searching online and wondered if anyone here had one of their dogs and what the kennels are like?

They have cropped up a few times on here so if you search I'm sure you will find out the various views on them. My own preference is to buy a puppy brought up in the home rather than in kennels. With any large scale breeders I would want to ask about the number of litters the bitch has had, how often she is bred, and how old she was when she had her first litter, just to be sure that it is all done properly.

Thanks Bid. The thing that was concerning me a bit was the amount of different breeds they are breeding. I know normally a good breeder will stick with one to possibly two or three different breeds. Also as you said, the fact the pups aren't in the home environment for socialisation could potentially be a problem... If they take the time with the pups to take them into the house, then that's a different matter. But with a lot of dogs breeding I'm not sure that would be possible.

I got Daisy from Foxisle Gundogs, and I wouldn't be without here. Yes they do breed a lot of puppies, but the kennels are clean and the puppies are well looked after. When we visited Daisy the lady (Tina) came into the kennels and the puppies recognised her voice and cried for her. The only thing that I would say is to make sure that both parents have been health checked and you have seen their certificates and that you are happy with what you see.

I ended up with the wrong dog, but that is another story.

We have Cookie a F1B standard Chocolate doodle from foxisle. We rehomed her at 5 months from her previous owner so can't comment on the kennel or breeder but Cookie is the most placid, loving, clever and loyal dog that I have ever owned and she looks good too

When I went to visit the litter one of the puppies got really excited when I cuddled it, so we decided that that he was the one for us, so the clipped his fur from near his tail so that they knew it was mine. I went to visit him a couple of weeks later and they accidently bought out the wrong dog (it had been clipped on his neck), however, they soon fetched Fergus out.

I kept joking that I would end up with the wring dog, but didn't really believe I would. Anyway when he was ready to come home we collected him, I checked that the clipped hair was in the right place, which it was, so I was satisfied that it was Fergus. I did notice that his hair was softer, but I just presumed that he had been brushed.

A couple of days later 'Fergus' was on his back and being a first time dog owner I wasn't quite sure that his boy bits were in the right place so my sister came to check. He was a girl!

I didn't tell the breeder because I had bonded with her and didn't want to swap her, so we changed her name, changed microchip and insurance details. We can only presume that a girl and a boy were clipped in the same place. I often winder about Fergus and hope that he found wonderful owners, but I wouldn't be without Daisy.

Becky.q, do the owners of the kennels start to socialise the puppies with household noises etc? While I agree it's great the kennels were clean and tidy and the pups you saw recognised the lady and wanted her attention, I also feel it's important that they should have the opportunity to experience day-to-day noises in a home environment so it's not so stressful for them when they go to their new homes. I guess some people may be looking for kennel dogs in which case it wouldn't be such a problem if they weren't, but our future pup will be a house dog and I really want to get it right for the dogs sake.

To be honest I don't know if they are taken out of the kennel environment to get used to household noises, as I was a naive first time prospective dog owner. I seem to remember some of the photos of the puppies were taken in the house, but I suppose you can do that without them spending much in there. I know the parents were well socialised, and did have time away frim the kennels. I have never had problems with Daisy, in fact she is far to social, especially with men and noises were never a problem, she would sleep through anything apart from the fridge door being opened or a packet of food being rustled. Daisy settled into our home straight away. You could always phone/visit them and ask them if do get socialised.
