She's got me over a barrel

Post by MandyG » 05 Oct 2012, 13:28

Until recently, Phoebe has not slept in my room at night. She's got a whole, lovely big couch downstairs to stretch out on. The phrase, "night, night, go to sleep" combined with turning off the lights was her cue to go bye-byes.

I made the big mistake of bringing her up with me a few times. Now she's worked out that if she starts to bark at 2 o'clock in the morning, I will leap up and come down stairs to shut her up. I live in a terraced house you see, and the neighbours both have young children.

I go back to bed and she starts barking again. I get up, she goes quiet. I go back to bed, she barks.

She's figured out that if she keeps it up eventually I will give in and bring her upstairs with me. I don't like it, but on this one I think she wins. I've tried putting her in her crate but to no avail.

I don't think I'll even bother leaving her downstairs at all any more. She can just move in with me! (I do like the sleepy doodle cuddles in the morning though!)

Huumm sense of deja vu! Thats how Stout ended up sleeping in our room about a year ago

Watch out re the cuddles (see my earlier post), she is probably lulling you into a false sense of security
Cheers,

Chris, Michelle & Stout

Ha ha, Phoebe sounds exactly like my children! I still wake up sometimes to find my youngest squashed up in the middle... then look down to find the dog has followed suit...then realise OH has taken himself off to the spare room to get some peace!

Yes, Michelle, I saw your post about Stout abandoning his cuddling duties. I don't know, these doodles think they run the place. What's that? They do? Oh, right.

Henry swaps between different bedrooms throughout the night but is more than happy to snuggle in bed with me on a morning and happily goes back to sleep.
He has even been known to actually climb into bed and get under the duvet - see photo xx

Have you thought about having a kong ready to give her at 2am to settle her back down?

  They're quick learners. So far we have managed to still resist letting Toffee into the bedroom, but we're lucky enough to be out in the country so we were able to ignore the nighttime barking which started a few weeks ago and seems to have stopped now.

Sleepy doodle cuddles are the best:

I have to let her sleep in our room (though I swear she starts out on her bed on the floor next to ours), because I imagine that if she were to sleep on the couch she would do herself some horrible back injury:

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not alone in being ruled by a dood!

Henry certainly rules to roost in our home :D in a nice way of course though , hes on the sofa and on the bed, luckily he is the type of Doodle that doesnt shed hair (yet anyway!!), he does like to climb under the duvet though.
