murphy has a new hip

Post by fiken » 10 Apr 2013, 13:19

well, we finally done it, a year after Murphy was disagnosed as having hip dysplasia she has had a full hip replacement. She went into Broadleys on Monday and was operated on mOnday afternoon, was a complicated one as her hip (not the worst on xray but the worst for her pain) was so bad she was in for a while. We received a phone call at 7:30pm to advise the post op xrays looked good and it was a bit touch and go with them having to remove more bone than they normally would. yesterday she didnt have a good day, has been on high levels of morphine administered every 4 hours and her mobility was not as good as they would have expected and she was very down. Needless to say so were we and worried sick. Phoned this morning and she is more comfortable and hopefully a little brighter as the day goes on, she's a quiet wee soul with people she doesnt know and i'm sure she feels totally abandoned. She will have to spend another night in hospital and hopefully we can pick her up tomorrow. have been on a total guilt trip worrying have we done the right thing as she was so happy before she went in, but both vets and specialist have told us she was in incredible pain and just masking it as she has done all her short life. we're hoping that by her 2nd birthday in July she will be the mad pup she probably never had the chance to be. just binding my time now till my next phone call at 3 (try not to bother them too much but its soooo hard) xx

Awwww - poor little poppet :( I am sure she will come on in leaps and bounds once she can get home with her family. Will be keeping my fingers crossed that she can come home tomorrow.

Thank you so much, all those doodle hugs have gone straight to murph, who is probably snoring in her 5 star kennel full if happy drugs. Unfortuntely she has to go back into theatre to gave hip put back in and adjusted, we are really hoping Friday brings on the improvement the Orthopeds are looking for and we can get her home for the weekend. Those doodles really fill your home, its soooo quiet, what did we do before she came to us, I don't know :-D. Thank you everyone again you certainly made me feel better xx fiona
