Eye drops

Post by Webbs » 03 May 2013, 20:19

Can anyone tell me what eye drops they buy for their dog which arent from the vet. I have Maxitrol Eye drops which always clears up Willow little eye infections but getting low on this now and need some more but dont fancy paying 30.00 to see the vet to buy more. Does anyone use human eye drops?

Chloramphenicol (golden eye). I've just finished giving Treacle a course of this in ointment form for eye infection. You can get it from your chemist in drops too. Around £5.50. We weren't asked who it was for as it's quite a common purchase I suppose... The Vets use this too. Worked wonders in 3 days tho we kept using it for 5 day course. Treacs eyes are back beautifully clear again. As long as you're sure it's just a little infection it'll be ok but if you suspect there is some other underlying problem best to see your vet. Can't be too careful with the eyes can we? :)

Thanks all and as I suspected, the vet would not give me any without seeing her as it is illegal to prescribe them unless she was last seen for the same thing no more than 14 days ago :(
