Totally agree with you Katie, Juliette and Woolly. :D

My little bichon has been fab with any litters we have had - never been a mum herself - but once the dam is happy for her to spend time with the little pups she does ....

Some breeders around here - doodle and poodle - are so far up their own backsides it is unbelievable .... those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones as they say !!!

Katie your pups look immaculate and beautifully reared, take no notice of ridiculous insinuations.

Katie, I'm so sorry about the loss of your wee pup, nobody is disbuting your care, these things happen in nature! :(

Please everyone, don't try to turn this thread into a slanging match, it's about trying to find good breeding practices all round. As we have found, certain conflicts do exist, ie. posting landline no's etc. pups being reared indoors. We will all have differences of opinions! At the end of the day, we are trying to find a way of promoting ourselves as good breeders with the best interests of the dogs/pups/future for the breed at heart! :D

Question
"And Carole g - have I missed something here - who said anything about puppies being out before 4 weeks???"
Answer
It was a simple personal response to Carol Shaws comment about no viewers before 4 weeks.

Agree with you Lou Beale, I don't think anyone wants to see the thread taking a different turn when the good intentions are clear. It was however extremely insensitive to suggest that the little dog licking the puppy might have contributed to its death. It has obviously been upsetting enough for Katie Rourke to lose a little puppy without someone trying to make her feel she is to blame :?

Yes Wooly, it was a very insensitive comment!

I don't believe it healthy for pups to be wrapped up in cotton wool. Afterall, they need to build up their immune systems naturally. We are all far too clinical these days which is why we have so many problems with allergies and superbugs etc.

Obviously, there is a difference between keeping pups in filthy, stinking conditions and rearing them in a clean, comfortable environment but to try to avoid exposure to everything is ridiculous.

As this has gone wildly off topic, it s probably a good time to repeat the whole point of the thread which the vast majority would like to see brought into effect.

In order to qualify for an advert on his site, breeders must agree that

1 No bitch bred from in the same 12 months as having a litter
2 No bitch to have a litter before 2 yrs or after 7 years, bitches to be limited to 4 litters.
3 All tests relative to breed carried out on parent dogs and KC and vet certificates available for viewing by prospective purchasers (Potential purchasers should be aware of the hereditary problems that can crop up in the breed)
4 Puppies are wormed with a veterinary preparation and schedule provided
5 Puppy comes with puppy pack of information leaflet, pedigree, registration documents where possible, photos of parent dogs and the next 48 hours of food.
6 The breeder must supply a contract with their puppy stating that they will remain responsible for the future of the pup, in that they guarantee to assist with rehoming of the dog at any time in the future, if it should become necessary.
7 All bitches and puppies must be kept in warm comfortable conditions. In the breeding of miniature labradoodles care must be taken that too large a dog is not mated to too small a bitch
8 All adverts to have the breeder's full name and landline number, address to be supplied in full to puppy viewers.

"wildly off topic" ???

For which you, Carole, must take some responsibility !

Perhaps if you devoted your precious time to your own breed, the Standard Poodle, as oppose to a breed such as the Labradoodle, which you don't actually approve of, the SP may not have the long list of potential health problems that it now does, you never know.

now come on- thats not fair!

Carole g has helped SO MANY PEOPLE on here, offered her valuable advice, emailed her puppy feeding plans, taken people to her house to see if they are allergic to poodles...and why? Because she wants to make sure the breeding of labradoodles, a relatively new breed, is done with care and consideration to the animals, and that people buy them knowing what they are gonig to get.

I think this is an excellent idea, and we're lucky we have her to write up and adapt these rules for us, at the end of the day we're unhappy with the puppy finder, this is a solution.

I think the redraft is suitable now, lets hope mark can enforce it

at the very least prospective owners will know the MINIMUM of what to expect

I agree. I bet there are quite a few others who agree too but they are not brave enough to say anything.

Hear Hear Grainne! Well said! Yes we all know that Carole is a poodle person, but surely that means we should appreciate her help on this (and other topics) even more. I know I do - thanks Carole.

Carole is an animal lover at the end of the day, And i like and trust her.
It does seem to me that we do need a little more work on the Puppy finder, simply because everyone who is a good breeder, is not happy. We need to look at these reasons again. Stars for one, and more lee way on mini doods and their seasons. Also Landlines, I know we have discussed this but many people are not happy . I don't think thieves should be underestimated. Up until now i have given my number but should we think again here?

OK, I have just read a post i totally missed earlier. Which says that mobiles can be transfered to land lines. Did anyone else see this and what do you think of this option, does anyone agree that this could be a solution?
