Natures menu sends Chelsea rabid!!

Having given up on Bakers complete because she was hyper I decided to try JWB with Chelsea. She ate the first bowlful and then completely refused to touch it. In desperation I went out and bought one pouch of natures menu junior. I now have a rabid dog on my hands!!! She so totally LOVES it that she can't now sit and wait for her food and eats it so quickly that I sometimes wonder if I may have forgotton to actually give it to her!!

My question really is about how much to feed. At the moment I have been giving about 1/3 pouch mixed with a handful of the JWB (just to use it up really). I truely believe that I could give her two pouches and she would just eat them and be sick as she likes it so much!! Does anyone have a good guideline or how do you tell if the dog is really hungry or just greedy! BTW she is 13 weeks tomorrow.

Hi
Daisy who belongs to my friend up the road, and is one of Freya's pups eats the same as yours, and loves the nature menu mixed in. I would weigh your dog, and then check the back of the JWB packet. Add ND, but i would say a quarter pac only between the two meals .

Hiya,
I fed Ruby this way for a little while when I first got her. I worked out the amount of JWB to feed from the packet then reduced it a bit and added a little, about a tablespoon, to each meal, gradually increasing the amount of NM each time with a little less JWB. You have to do this gradually to prevent an upset stomach. I think the recommended amount of ND alone is about 3 packs/day.
Ruby also really liked it but it gave her the runs so I switched to Nature Diet which is very similar but does not upset her stomach.

Actually this is serious now! When i gave Chelsea her dinner tonight, she almost jumped on to the kitchen worktop and i could not get her to sit down because she was jumping so high and trying to bite at me. I have always got her to sit and wait for her food and she has been really good at this. Should I just perservere. She seemed really out of control!

If she wants it badly enough, she will sit.
Just give her the cue, to sit, and she will soon realise what you are asking of her

Tilly also loves natures menu..but unfortunately it gives her an upset tummy.. natures diet doesnt smell as meaty, as when she had natures menu what came out smelt the same as when it went in  the natures diet definately gets eaten but without the boinging. She also likes Forthglade which I have been told is quite similar. What we did with tilly was if she got over excited when feeding was to put her food away for a few minutes till we got the right behaviour then give it to her, this was recommended by our trainer and it really worked. as she said reward good behaviour and ignore bad. Might be totally wrong but it worked for us.

i recommend Nature Diet in the plastic tubs. You can order direct and the weight info is online. They are very helpful and the dogs love it. Our wee foster refused her own food when she saw Macs so now shes on it too :D
