what a day...

Post by nashav » 03 Jul 2008, 18:21

This monring started off really well. Paige has finally got her freedom back after been in season so went for our usual morning walk to socialise with fellow dog walkers. I came across a lady with a pack of dogs, as i walked by i said 'good morning' and she said 'is that one of those labradoodle thingys?' i stopped and said yes thinking that it was a bit rude to call a dog thingy. Well this was just the beginning.

She then continued saying that ' people only get them because they are designer dogs, they are commom, really expensive for what is essentially a cross breed and hopfully the craze for this ' stupid named breed will soon stop.' i was sooooooo angry  i called paige and continued.

Obviously she is allowed her opinion but to say this to someone who owns and LOVEs her doodle to bits, i was shocked. i also happened to notice that all her dogs were expensive pedigree dogs.
I look back now and wish i had said something to back up the FANTASTIC breed but clearly anything that is not a pure pedigree dog is not acceptable to this lady.

Then this afternoon i got a big bag of treats from a friend. I took out the small treats to put in the cupboard, the boxes of bonios etc was going into the garage so i left it in the bag by the back door.
Later on while i was in the kitchen i looked up the garden and saw paige huddled right at the top with her back to the house. She doesnt usually do this unless she has something she should't. i went out called her, got no response. Then i noticed a small bit of red cardboard half way up the garden and instanly recognised it as a Bonio box. i walked up to paige and to my horror she had the bonio box which was empty, she looked up at me with her beard full of crumbs and an innocent look on her face.
i just had to laugh at the pure cheekiness, after all what was done. was done. My doodle obviously knew how to brighten up my day after the mornings experience and i wouldnt change her for the WORLD.

Hi,
We have had Bloodhounds, Pointers, Collies and Bassets over the years and the choice of a Labradoodle was taken with great care as we have a few in the family that are allergic to dog fur. I can say without a shadow of doubt the 'Doodle' is by far for the most fun, trainable, attractive, great with small children and all in all a happy breed and well suited to our needs. The person you have met on your walk just reflects how stupid and of little knowledge of this breed she has. I hope you see her again and you should enquire if she  has done her homework on Labradoodles otherwise you should regarded her as a ignorant un-informed fool and treat her with the contempt she deserves.

A few months ago while I was walking Daisy a lady with 2 afghan hounds asked wether she was a water spaniel. This was done while stroking Daisy,s head. When I replied no, a labradoodle her hand shot back and she muttered mongrel under her breath.I dont know what she thought she was going to catch from Daisy but after rudely walking off I could see her wiping her hand on her trouser leg.I was so gob smacked I couldt even think of anything to say.

Good for Paige she deserved her box of Bonios! How rude to criticise our lovely Doodles! I also think it is jealousy because we own such a wonderful and fun breed. My sister in law was looking after Jeff for me on Saturday and came to the house to give him some exercise while I was taking the In laws shopping. She tempted Jeff back in doors by giving him some of his usual feed. She failed to close the sack and yes you have guessed it, we forgot to close the door and he had his big mop head in the bag and helped himself! We wondered how much he had eaten but it was apparent that it was lots when he could not be bothered to eat in the evening. Needless to say he poohed for England the next day. This is one of the reasons we love them!

 that is disgusting!

Most people i meet are generally interested in the breed when they find out she is a Labradoodle and love to give her a fuss. It is just such a shame that some people out there cant seem to accept new breeds.

Her pack consisted of Airedale Terrier, Border Terrier, Miniature Schnauzer and Jack russels x2. If i see her next time i might remind her that the Jack russel is not strictly a prue breed ( then run)

Oh dear Hilly :) Paige only just managed to eat her evening meal, think her pride got in the way and the fact that food was in the bowl so it had to be eaten.

Dont forget that all pedigrees started of as 'mixtures/crossings' of various wild dogs from various countries/continents.

Perhaps you could remind this silly woman of this fact!

I know just how you feel.

A training club we used to attend was predominantly made up of collies.
Now I like collies... They're a bit mad, but we’ve got a dood so who am I to judge.... :D

Anyway, I overheard a couple of the collie owners (both ladies of a certain age) muttering about "well, he's OK but not a proper dog".
Now, me being my usual retiring self, challenged them to a punch up in the car park  (actually I just confronted them and said they obviously didn’t know what they were talking about).

They could have choked when a young Foz wiped the floor with all these older collies in his KC bronze award.

We now frequent a different establishment where he’s appreciated for what he is. A mad, intelligent, nutty, obedient, funny, lovable and loving "dog"...

Well I don't care what the silly old bat said about doodles, I'm impressed about Paige's flyball team qualifying for Crufts

Phooey to all those 'pedigree' border collies, and bring on the doodles - that's what I say

I was walking along the other day when this obnoxious lady walking a Westie and a golden retriever both of which I love, pointed at Honey and sneered "What's that?"
Now at this point I realised I wasn't going to have a sensible unbiasesd conversation so I said "That?" and she replies "He, she, IT" turned to her companion and said "OMG it's one of those Labra......" at which point I cut her off and LIED
I said "I'm not sure, we got her from rescue" at which point she couldn't really say anything else.
I get really irritated at peoples nerve, how dare they criticize our pet of choice, HOW RUDe
So, I say  to the lot of them!!

It is quite apparent that Doodle owners are far better bred!! than some other owners - and as for designer dog, who was being the designer snob here if only a pedigree would do, you should have a dog because you love them, not because of their label - so there
