How big will he be?

Post by Nimitor » 06 May 2011, 15:39

I know we can never be sure how our pups will turn out but a throwaway comment by our vet nurse had me wondering! He is almost 5 months old and weighs 16kg.She said he is not overweight, in fact tending towards the slim side was her comment. Then she said" he is big for a doodle though" Is he?? How big should he be?? Just curious.

I had that at the vets too.
I think a lot of people have a size in mind roughly the same as the mini poodles, so tend to expect a Dood to be smaller than a lab.
I was told that Bru' would be a big boy, but seeing as he came from a big chunky lab and a royal poodle, he was always going to be large.

As a rule of thumb, most dogs will be roughly double their weight at between 4 and 5 months when they reach full size as an adult. On that basis he will probably be around 32 kg which would be well within the normal range of a decent sized male Labrador or Standard Poodle.

Is he crossed with a mini poodle???

I only ask because at 21 weeks Ted was 16.5kg - now at 8months and 1 day old he is 22kg - not huge. But he is crossed with a mini. (although he is big for a mini cross)

He is 19/20inches tall and quite slim but hasn't grown in a month or 2 just starting to fill out.

My vet seemed to think when Ted was a pup he would be around 40kg when older (Yeah right!!!)

Wow, Scoppenhall, that does seem quite big for a miniature labradoodle. Roxie WAS the smallest in her litter, but she was only 14kg at 8 months. (She's a miniature labradoodle too).

Heehee he is big but I was expecting it! He was by far the biggest of the litter - and being a boy I suppose he is likely to be a lot bigger than the girlies. He is also VERY Lab in body. So I think thats why he weighs so much.

I think the F1s are often a bit bigger than the others, and boys slightly bigger than girls in general. Daze is an F2 and isn't huge. She is 23" to the shoulder and around 27/28kg. Poppy is 21" and only 18kg, but then she's weird!

Pebbles is really light in comparison - she is about 17 " to the shoulder and weighs about 11kg. She has a very slight build.

Stout was 25 kilos at 6 months, he was 28.4 kilos at 9 months. He is strong but not chubby, you can still feel his bony shoulders. He is definitely slowing down his growing now. He is fifth generation, but from a standard poodle line.
Cheers,
