Urinating at night aged 2 - any ideas?

Post by Sarah Bevan » 24 May 2013, 07:35

Any ideas ??
Jessie is 2 in July and has just started doing a wee on the carpet during the night, she has done it every night this week!
Nothing has changed routine wise, she can hold herself for a long time during the day, never any problems there, but hubby goes out to work at 5.30am and this week he as found a puddle each morning.

As it is happening so early I don't know what time she does it, I even took away her water late last night after she had been out and she still wet.

Any ideas most welcome .....

What is she like during the day - weeing more than usual on her walks at all? Maybe she has a slight infection - I would pop her to the vets for a check up as she may need some anti-biotics.

Agree with Bid, could be a urinary tract infection - best to get it checked.

Thanks, but she is no different in the day at all and she is not asking to go out in the morning because she has already done it.
I will monitor it over the weekend.

A lab I walk does this - fine during the day but wets at night. The vet put it down to urinary incontinance and she has a tablet daily which sorts her out - no idea what the tablet is though.

I always thought that urinary incontinance meant that they leaked when asleep or sometimes pottering about, but reading about it it can show itself by them being unable to hold a full bladder and then releasing a lot. There are drugs available that strenghten the muscles that hold that bladder closed and I assume that it what the lab I walk has.

The most common cause is a uti though, so if it carries on imo it is still worth getting her checked by your vet. On the other hand it could just go away and be "one of those things" :?

If you can get a sample to take with you to the vet, you'll be able to find out if it's a UTI soon enough.

Hope it's simply and painlessly sorted...poor pupster!
