I am so sorry at the sad loss of Dougal, Mark. What a very moving tribute you have written. The photos of his life are a lovely tribute too, and the last photograph was so poignant. Please accept my sincerest condolences for you and your family. Run free at Rainbow Bridge, Dougal.

Mark and family, I am so terribly sad to read of your loss. Dougal sounds like a great character and a very special friend.

What a beautifully written tribute. We went through this three years ago. Although you know when you must let them go, it is heartbreaking. Now my keyboard is soaking wet.

RIP

What a beautiful tribute to a wonderful dog. Many years ago when I first started my seach for a labradoodle, on doing a google search, up came Dougal ! I spoke to Mark, who was more than helpful, and helped me make my decision that a doodle was the way to go. Sadly, after 5 years we lost our beautiful dog in a road accident, and the posts on this site gave me and my family great comfort. I hope Mark and his family can take some comfort from all these messages, my heart bleeds for you all now, it is so painful .
RIP Dougal, run free boy,. until you meet again at Rainbow Bridge xxx

What a wonderful and beautiful life you shared together, what warm, funny and endearing memories you have that will help you smile through the tears, laugh through the pain and remember him for the very best friend you ever had.

I have no doubt your heart aches so much it hurts and I am truly sorry for your pain, though truly happy that yours and Dougal lives were enriched by each other.

Goodnight and Sweet Dreams Dougal Hayhurst.

xx

Thank you Mark, for sharing your thoughts and memories of the wonderful life you and your family shared with your Dougal.
I've heard people say is it worth having our pets, when we go through so much pain and loss when they have to leave us for the Rainbow Bridge.
But, of course, we all know it's worth every single moment they share with us.
Hope your wonderful memories of your lovely boy help you all through.
God bless, Dougal.

It makes me realise how truly blessed we all are to have such wonderful dogs to make our lives so much better. It's just so hard they go to Rainbow bridge so soon. Thank you for sharing Dougals life -he'll always be in happy memories. x

Mark, how lucky you and your family were, and, of course, how lucky Dougal was too.

Your story has had us both in floods of tears this evening. Dougal sounds so much like our Digby, a wonderful, huge, gentle and benign labrador who also came to us in the summer of 1999 - and who also had that circular tail motion! I had never had a dog before. Our girls nagged us mercilessly until we gave in. They left home - and then there were three - us, and Digby. Dig went to the Rainbow Bridge, as they say, almost exactly a year to the day before Dougal, on 6th November 2008. He had a whole page of Facebook tributes from our daughters' friends, who in their teenage years would come in the worse for wear, put their heads on his chest, and apparently tell him all their secrets. And as one commented - 'he never told!' . So - almost a year to the day later, the house felt way too quiet. We replaced the carpet. Changed the car. Thought about the freedom we hadn't had for 25 years since the kids were born. And - well - we now have Douglas, a labradoodle, 11 weeks, peeing on the carpet, chewing on our ankles, trying to get above me in the pack - and we wouldn't have it any other way. Digby would be looking on with gentle tolerance. Thank you again for telling us about Dougal and for reminding us again of Digby. Poll and Pete xx
