You appeared in our lives nearly 19 years ago. I heard your little meaow whilst washing up in early December, it was was very dark, and when I went to investigate, I found you.......a little tabby/tortie kitten, very shy, and as we live in the middle of nowhere, I put you in the porch with some food, leaving the door open in case you wanted to leave.

As you had decided to stay overnight, I rang the local vets and cattery to see if you were lost, but it seemed that you had chosen us, and so we called you Orph, as you were an orphan, and although you used to spend much of your time outside, you seemed happy to be here.

The last two years have been a struggle for you Orphie, and you have spent most of them indoors. Went you left on Tuesday this week, I knew where you were going......back to from where you came.....over Rainbow Bridge.

We will miss you something chronic, but feel honoured that you chose us, and you can now run free with the three Devon Rexes that welcomed you into there home, Nyan Taro and Gizzie. Run free sweetheart xxxxxxxxx

so sorry for your pain. But it does seem that the best cats you can have are always the ones that choose you. Orphie must have had a happy life to get to 19. Remember the good times and he will live on in your heart forever.

Ruth

When my hubby and I moved in to our first home (1993 when I was just 20) a little kitten came to stay but left me heartbroken after a few days when she decided that her holiday had lastest long enough and she went home. I tried to rehome a kitten from 3 local catteries and none would let us have one because we weren't in a stable enough relationship  .

The local pet shop had kittens for sale and Louie was the best £7.50 I have ever spent. He was my baby before I had my babies and as such held a very special place in my heart. He adored all of us (even Finley when he came along in August 2007!)

My darling pussy cat went to heaven in Febraury 2008 and I thought my heart would never mend and for nearly 2 years I wouldn't even talk about another pet. In Novermber last year my eldest (Owen 11) persuaded me to have another kitten - a beautiful British Shorthair Cream called Fudge. She made the house a home again but my hubby was severely allergic (I'm talking inhalers, steroids, chest xrays until they found what was wrong) and we had to rehome her! Again the house was just a shell but then I persuaded hubby to buy a dog (I don't think he dared say no) and Bobby came into our lives.

I will never forget my Louie and even Fudge although we only had her for a short time, but those you have will help you through the dark times and you will remember Orphie fondly in time.

Take care and look afer yourself

Love 'n' hugs

So sad to hear of your loss Ruth, Orphie will always hold a special place in your heart I'm sure, the hurt we feel is a measure of our love for our furbabies.

So very sorry to hear about Orphie, one of my cats will be 19 in October, just hoping she gets one more summer lazing around with her beloved catnip.

Hope that with time your sadness will fade and happy memories remain.

Sam xxxx
