PTS - Doodle in rescue aggression case :(

Post by Barneyboy » 03 Mar 2010, 21:37

A fellow trainer has just updated her FB status to say that a Doodle she assessed in rescue today was PTS this afternoon because no suitable fosterer could be found :(

Run free sweet heart, free from whatever demons tormented you.

Please, those of you who are breeding - this could have been one of your pups :(

At what stage does the owner take responsibility from the breeder for a dogs behaviour?

That's the second one I've heard of, although I think the one on DT had a medical reason for the aggression.

I suppose that given the popularity of doodles it was inevitable that some agressive ones were going to show up eventually :(

I'm now wondering what I was doing when the little lad was PTS. Was he scared, was he alone, did he see a friendly face. Its just too sad.

The trainer who was trying to help has had her post removed from Facebook (sorry, thought everyone knew what FB was) at the request of a Doodle rescue :( Why would they ask that? Are they ashamed that they don't have enough rescue places?

My point about breeders is that there aren't enough rescue places for all the Doods that need help. If any dog was desired and hard to find, and ALL breeders responsible, maybe rescue wouldn't be needed.

Now that doesn't seem right to me! Why should a trainer not have the right to express her views on FB - assuming they were not based on incorrect information that is. Although it is very sad that an aggressive dog has to be pts, it is understandable that in a lot of cases there really is no safe alternative, and surely it is better to explain that, than try to pretend it didn't happen :|
