Today we lost our lovely Ollie Bear, he'd been with us 10 years and was around 18 months old when we had him from the dog's home.

He'd had arthritis for a while, but this had been well controlled. Unfortunately, he developed a nasty limp, and an X-ray revealed a tumour in his elbow joint. The prognosis wasn't good, and he was obviously in considerable pain, so we did what we thought was best for him. He was a great character and has left a huge hole in our lives. Thanks for all the fun!

Poor Ollie. That is such a difficult decision we have to make.
Our thoughts are with you both and Stan.

I'm so sad to hear about Ollie Bear. As others have said, you gave him a lovely life. He's in a safe, comfortable place now and would hate to think of you being sad but I know it's impossible not to be.

Love from us all

Oh that is such sad news. Ollie Bear was such a lovely looking dog. But the others are right. You did the best thing for Ollie and he is now in a wonderful place and out of pain. Take care of yourself.

Thank you all so much for your kind words. It's been a funny weekend, the one consolation being that Ollie was only really ill for a couple of days. It must have been horribly aggressive for him to go downhill so quickly.

On a more positive note, Stan's doing really well, still eating and eager for his walks, which is good. I don't doubt he misses his big brother, so we're making sure he sees some of his doggy friends and he's going to have some time at work with Simon (he used to go in at least once a week when he was a pup), which means that his usual routine will break up a bit.

So sorry to read this, it is heart-rending to have to say goodbye to our babies. Well done for making the right decision for him, it's a hard thing to do but the kindest one.
