Millie doodle was born 17th April 2006, mother was cream standard poodle called saskia? From newbiggin by the sea. She was one of eight in the litter two bitches and six boys. The mother died a year after our litter but Millie has addisons! She is in a research programme looking into addisons..Just wondering if there are any other siblings on here apart from jasper?

Hi John, Sorry to hear about Millie's diagnosis - there are a few doodles around with it and I am sure they will offer to share their experience if you want them to. Also, there is a project that records labradoodle health details both good and bad with the aim of helping breeders select healthy breeding doodles and research the backgrounds of their dogs. If you wanted to contact them their site is http://www.doodledatabase.com/

Thanks for that, Bid, will have a look. Millie's had addisons since she was three, then overdosing of steroid brought on diabetes a year later, so addisons for six yrs and diabetes for five. It's a bit of a juggling act but she does ok. Like I said the uni is doing research into addisons and we sent in DNA, but it would probs be good to have some litter mates in the study.

You seem to be doing remarkably well managing Millie's conditions

Thanks scooby.
Yea Millie is quite stable at the moment, apart from loosing a bit of her hair, which the vet is not too concerned about. Were not sure if it's some type of alopecia? The addisons is very easy to treat, it's the diagnosis that is difficult and sometimes comes to late for some. Because it is relatively rare some vets never have a case and ours was learning along with us, consequently she was overdosed on prednisone, this could have been the cause of the insulin dependant diabetes. The page below is an excellent resource for learning about it.
