Summer our gorgeous f2 cream girl! (Pictures)

Post by Davvers » 20 Apr 2008, 19:50

Just to introduce Summer our lovely f2 dood! Her dad is Clifford from Caitlin and her mum is Gem (also from Caitlin). We'd be interested in seeing pictures of any relatives our there :D
We are so thrilled with her looks and temperament (the sweetest natured and very easy to train) that we are thinking of having pups with her this year (our first litter) but are apprehensive about our little girl as she's the apple our our eye.
We raw feed and plan to raise the pups on raw food too, and are really picky about what we feed her making sure there's no nasty preservatives in her food - so we hope she will have happy healthy pups.
We've taken her to the vet to get her health checked which was fine - but any advice on getting her hip scored would be appreciated. Do we just ask our regular vet? I know sometimes they are a bit sniffy about cross breeds! Do they check the elbows at the same time? And what about the eye checks? He checked her eyes and said they were fine but is this enough? Any prospective stud muffins out there?? :)
Thanks for your help with this. My email is claire@sparkdigital.co.uk

Can't really advise on the hip scoring etc but we had Elmo x-rayed and checked when he had the snip  Which rules him out of your "stud muffin" category.

You will, I have no doubt, get a whole heap of useful advice very shortly :|

... oh, and you're very welcome :D

Hi

She is gorgeous as are all Caitlin labradoodles, I wonder if she is related to Kates Buddy on the forum although I think Buddy has just turned 1yrs.

You will certainly get loads of advice on here re hip scoring etc. :D

Good luck with your plans.

Hi Davvers, and welcome to ukla
She is really pretty.
Your usual vet would do the hip and elbow XRays, and they would be sent off to the BVA. She would need to be a year old for this to happen.
For eye testing, it is only a specialist vet that can do the testing, we take ours to seadown in Hythe Hants.
Before any mating Summer needs to be a minimum of 2 years old.
Any stud Muffin you used would also need to have had his health testing done, the eyes and elbows need to be clear, and the breed meanscore for a Labradoodle is 14 for hips (or at least no points over 3 each side)
Hope this helps
Amber :)

Thanks Amber - we'll give our vet a ring. She's 2 next month, the vet said that's she was a good age to breed. We think she's a good representation of the breed (we looked long and hard to find her) and we're big fans of Caitlin doodles.
Thanks Debs - I'll check out Buddy - he may be a younger relative! Summer was one of 7 pups - there was a choccy girl, a black girl (Bella??), 2 cream boys and 3 cream girls (one was almost white)

It's really funny but when I think of Summer meeting with a boyfriend I get all protective  but I'm sure she'll be fine and maybe even enjoy it

She really is a lovely girl, and I'm sure she'll have no problems finding a suitable boy

All I would add to Amber's post is to make sure that when the vet sends the x-rays off to the BVA to make sure that they are marked as Labradoodle. I am sure that your vet will also be able to advise as to the nearest eye specialist. The results for the hips and elbows (may as well get them done at the same time) take around 6 weeks to come back, so you need to get those in asap if you wish to breed this year.

Best of luck :D

Hi Kate & Buddy!
Yes - she's is bred by Jean Queen - and I remember Yogi's name being mentioned - was she the choccy girl?? I'll have to search the forum to see her posts. Summer was born in May 06.
It's so nice to meet some relatives.
Summer has some really funny quirks - she pounces like a cat on her toys and has a mad half hour where she tucks her bottom underneath and races round in circles when she gets excited - it just really cracks us up! She LOVES toys and fetching frisbees/balls/etc and is the most social dog ever - absolutely loves children, dogs, cats (can't understand why they won't play!?) everyone she comes into contact with. That's the main reason we'd like to continue her line - she's the best dog we've ever had.
Doodles are the best aren't they!??
Does anyone else's dood do the same?? I think it must be doodle traits!
