Hi i am considering using my dog Fred for stud duties when he gets older, now only 14mths old.I know i have to get his Hips/elbows xrayed and his eyes checked but uncertain as to whether he has to be registered anywhere, before he can commence stud duties.Any info would be great.John

To the best of my knowledge, as labradoodles are still not a recognised breed there is no where to register a stud dog.

As well as doing the usual hip and elbow scores and annual eye testing you can also do a genetic test for PRA, if this is clear, it rules out the risk of him, or any of his off spring passing on the PRA gene.

If he is an F1 from a registered lab and poodle you could try using the kennel clubs new 'mate select' website. You can get the results of any health tests on registered dogs if you have their registered name. So if you can get hold of his parents 5 generation pedigrees you can get loads of information on his breeding and his genetic diversity.
