Hello
I was wondering whether anyone could please recommend a good ear cleaning solution which I could buy over the counter or on-line?
When we first got Podge he had really dirty ears and earmites (even though he was only 12 weeks old

). The vet sorted this out but he occasionally gets smelly ears with brown wax and I thought maybe I could deal with this myself.
Any advice would be great.

Hi
I bought some deoderizing jumbo ear wipes from P@H, it says on the tub that they are 'Veterinarian Recomended', Don't use them every day, maybe twice a week and they seem ok.
Hope that is of some help

I expect you need to keep the ears plucked to prevent build up and heat too.
Aural clear is the one normally used from the vets.

I use the ear wipes from P@H too - Teddy has a tendency to waxy ears but I find that if I use these weekly it really helps prevent build up. They smell nice too !!

Paige has ear probs too, i use Epi- Otic which can be brought from the vets. However it is much cheaper online. I was told by the vet to pour the cleaner on cotton wool and then clean down inside the ear.
This works best for paige but you can just put some cleaner directly into the ear.

We use Shaws ear cleaning and mite lotion(no relation)ha ha. from pet shops(also good for ponies) but if the ear gets really smelly we use Thornit powder available on line but the more "poodley" of our doodle friends need the hair plucking from there ears regularly to keep them well start this as a puppy or they will not like it

Thank you everyone for your replies - I've now got some product names to go for and some good ideas.
On the subject of plucking, sorry to be a bit dim, but does this need to be done by the vet?

Hi everyone
Just had my poor girl in for thorough clean out and, even though originally vet recommended, he did say that the epi otic I had been using was a bit drying. And our girl had dried wax impacted that needed a general anaesthetic to remove.
Its a bit of a minefield with poodly ears.

we use cleanaural every couple of weeks, and haven't had any ear probs at all
fudgey does have hair growing out of her ears, but our vet told us not to pluck as she said it MAY encourage further thicker hair growth - she's 3 now and we've not had any problems so far (thank goodness!!!

)
