Has anyone any experience of this? It seems very likely that this is what Murphy has, we're just waiting for the biopsy results back. Apparently it's an auto immune disease, it can be treated with tablets apparently, but is quite painful.

Hi,i had a GSD many years ago with this, common in this breed not helped when tail is carried tight to body therefore restricting air to anus.If it can be treated with oral medication things have moved on a lot.My experience of the disease does not make pleasant reading so if you want more info a pm might be better, but I am sure your vet will give you all the info you need.Good luck.

Ooohhh!!! Wish I hadn't asked now!!!!

I've spoken to my vet and done quite a bit of googling and there seems to be a new drug which is very good.

Just been back for his two week check and the Atopica has done it's job and his bum is looking so much better, he's no longer crying when he has a poo and even let the vet lift his tail to have a look, which when he tried before poor old Murphy went nuts. He has to stay on the Atopica for 12 weeks to make sure it's totally gone, and will be prone to this again so we have to keep an eye on him.

For the millionth time I will say I am so glad that he's insured, the vet told me today that the Atopica costs £6 a tablet and he's on it for three months
