I haven't claimed but a friend did with a standard Dood and pet plan were fantastic.

That was one of the reasons I chose petplan and also because of the insurers a few years ago that stopped doing pet insurance and cancelled all their policies!. This meant that those who had ongoing problems couldn't get insurance for long term complaints

there is a difference besides post code if they are "lifetime" covers - which means (I believe they dont stop cover for ongoing problems)

HI Doodle Dee, when my insurance premium reached about 30 odd I to had the make the decision and after speaking to some other people in my area with dogs, some were either not insured or on the 12 month policy. I decided after speaking to them that I probably just need her covered for accidents ie: broken leg etc and that would be fixed and hopefully no further problems.

I have just found out that willow may have incontinence which is unfortunate that I changed my policy but its how it goes. I just could not afford the money they wanted but at least I am still insured rather than not.

Good luck in what ever you decide to do :)

After seeing previously what people were paying, I checked with petplan who I am with and postcode is definately used to calculate the price. Boys also cost more than girls but they couldn't tell me why!! As we are just in Bucks AND also in the M25, we're stuffed - we pay through the nose!!

I have just had a quote for exactly the same at Pet plan for half the amount. It was a company I used before with my other dog so I know they deal with the vets and pay promptly.

I am wondering if I can just cancel Petplan and go with the new one - my renewal is in September

Oh it is E&L Insurance under written by Prudential

Thanks Doodle Dee, the only thing that made me not go with another company was that If they don't specialise in pet insurance as in pet plan etc, then at any point, they can stop doing pet insurance. That's the only thing that stopped me.

Just google E&L before going with them. I know they have got a terrible reputation for paying out claims in other types of insurance.....

We were with petplan £23 a month but got renewal quote in and it had gone up to £28 month, tat was the £70000 cover £75 excess, as we hadn't made a claim thought we woud hop about, we now with john Lewis and pay £15 month £7500 of over and £60 excess, when we gave the vets our policy details they said petplan, john Lewis and marks and spencer were the 3 they recommended

Code: Select all

Seriously go with petplan as they are the only insurance that does not wack up the premium if you need to claim. We are £22 a month for £7000 worth of life cover and it has been wonderful as Ellie was diagnosed with dry eye soon after we adopted her. We claim regularily and our premium did not go up. Yes we were quoted cheaper insurance but so glad we did not go for it as you do get what you pay for (will soon need to claim for an eye op which it will cover).

I think the problem with premiums is the post code lottery - my premiums are higher

I also had a John Lewis quote and it was no better for me price wise than Pet Plan so will keep with them I think.

It is as bad as car insurance!!!
