Sussex meets?

Post by Nicky » 02 Apr 2017, 16:29

Hi,

I have a labradoodle and a standard poodle. I was wondering if there is any meets in the Sussex area? My poodle needs to mix with other dogs as he barks when on his lead.

His name is Wilson.

I used to own Dexter who we sadly lost a few years ago to osteosarcoma :(

Hi Nicky, I am in West Sussex and there are so many doods in my area but have never heard of a Sussex meet. I read of so many meets "up north" but not here. I have a white labradoodle who is a really gentle sensitive girl but it would be nice to see if she settles with regular friends. She will rarely play especially if she thinks things are getting too boisterous. Let me know if you are in east or West Sussex we have a large recreation ground with free parking so could meet up and if any other doodle owners want to join in.I could mention it to those I meet in the area.
Best wishes Kathie

Thanks Kathie.

That would be good.. Wilson is a large standard poodle 3 years old neutered. He likes to play with other dogs. I'd like him to meet as many as possible!

Bree is a labradoodle Labrador sized she is about 9.

Are you going to Paws in the park in May? :)

Hi Nicky
Have not thought to go, as imagine it could be too chaotic for Holly, as I mentioned she is somewhat sensitive.
She had an unprovoked attack on her only last week, by all things a Labrador. He was off lead and with his owners and Holly and I stood still whilst they passed by on a narrow track, about 5 feet from us he lunged at Holly knocked her flying, pounced on top and did its best to maul her. Only because I was able to grab his collar was I able to separate. The people were so shocked they did not move and made no attempt to grab him. Holly was cowered and filthy with mud and dead leaves and her shrieks and his snarls still haunt me. She recovered once they had gone (did not even say sorry) I cleaned her off and we managed to have a happy walk after. So whilst I want her to socialise with other dogs I will not put her into a situation I know will affect her. A small group of happy doods she is ok with. If you want to get a group up and running, we would love to join in.

Sorry to butt in but just to say starting up local a Doodle meet is such a great idea. I remember when I got our first Doodle Flo (8 years ago now!) I didn't know anyone with a labradoodle in my area and I put up a similar post to see if anyone would join me in a walk in the Surrey area. That first walk started off with around 4 owners and their doodles and Surrey Strollers was born! We now meet every 2 weeks and over the years we have grown to sometimes over 20 Doods and their Hoomans!! Great friendships have been made with both dogs and owners. Some meets more mad than others  and we have discovered some lovely walks we may not have known in the area. So definitely go for it.....by the way we have sometimes gone over the 'border' to  Sussex. We have found Nymans was good in Handcross, West Wittering and we hope to get to Ferring at some point in the Summer.

Good Luck and here's to some Great Doodle Walks!!! :D :D :D :D

Susiet you have not butted in, most welcome with your encouraging ideas. If that is Flo in the picture she is a sweet girl.
Yes Nymans is beautiful especially in Spring and Ferring which is near us has some great areas for walks. In fact we have Cissbury Ring very close with some stunning walking tracks. So will have a word with others in my area and hopefully get something up and running with Nicky.

Hi Marymuffin, have often thought what a lovely lad Dexter looks. He looks a lot like one of Holly's siblings we met. Next time you are in Worthing with a bit of time for a walk post on here and we could meet up at Hillbarn Rec, do you know it? We could let Nicky know, if she is free also. I am in Worthing too.

Hi Nicky

I haven't posted on the forum in years and think it would be a great idea for an East Sussex meet! I remember Dexter from walking in Stanmer Park many years ago; I have Finn who is nearly 8. I'm around during the week and most Saturday mornings if that is any good to you?

Hi Marion,

Yes I remember Finn :)

Yes I'm free on Saturday mornings, and would love to arrange a meet.

Wilson my standard poodle loves other dogs and he needs to socialise more off lead.

We can certainly arrange something!!
