Are there any experts on Herefordshire on the forum?

Post by val&finn » 22 Feb 2015, 20:45

Hi there, we are looking to spend a fortnight or so in Herefordshire - with Doodles in tow :D :D . We don't have a camper van/caravan, so are looking for self-catering accommodation. B&B may not be appropriate with two larger dogs.

I would be very grateful for every little piece of information on Herefordshire you care to share, or pointers as to where to find the information. Favourite dog walks, days out where dogs are allowed to come along, dog sitting services, eateries etc.

Looking forward to hearing all about Herefordshire - regards, Val

Hi Val. We stayed in Herefordshire a few years back and it's beautiful. We booked with Hoseasons and stayed at a place called 'Woodside Lodges Country Park', just outside Ledbury. It's a collection of luxury lodges set in 25 acres of beautiful grounds with lakes, streams etc., and the views are fantastic. We didn't have a dog with us at the time but several of the lodges are dog friendly (max 2 dogs, £40pw each). The lodges have wood burning stoves, and are very well-equipped - some have saunas too. We stayed in Tanglewood. The location is perfect for visiting lots of great places - it's close to the Malvern Hills, and is within striking distance (50 miles or less) of Hay-on-Wye, Bourton on the Water and the Brecon Beacons National Park. Sorry I can't recommend dog-friendly places to eat etc. but the following sites may be of help:

http://www.britainsfinest.co.uk/gardens ... lasscode/4
http://www.dogpeople.co.uk/dog-friendly ... ut?area=30

It really is a beautiful county - I'm sure you'll all have a great time :)

If you're on Face Book there's an excellent page called Dog Friendly Accommodation with places all over the country and beyond. Well worth a look. Just put in what you're looking for and people respond very quickly. You may to wait a short while to approved for joining the page.

Both the Riverside Inn at Aymestrey and the Stagg Inn in Titley allow dogs in both the rooms, and in the bar where you can eat (they also both do pretty good food, especially the Stagg which has a Michelin Star!). The Riverside is so dog friendly that they'll recommend walks in the area for you.

Hi there, many thanks for all your comments!

Masil, I'd looked at the Lodges you mention, so great to have a personal recommendation.
Padster - that's a good idea, I am not a great FBer but it's worth trying.

Noglet - Michelin starred food in the company of Doodles? I think I have to work on their table manners before I can risk it but it sounds tempting!

Thanks again!
